Answers to the questions UK businesses ask us most about Cyber Essentials.
How much does Cyber Essentials certification cost?
From £420 + VAT for self-managed certification, £720 for guided, and £1,420 for fully managed. Cyber Essentials Plus is quoted separately based on your size and setup.
What's the difference between Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus?
Cyber Essentials is a self-assessment: you confirm your controls are in place and an assessor marks the questionnaire. Cyber Essentials Plus adds an independent, hands-on Cyber Essentials audit where a qualified assessor tests those controls on your systems directly. We support both.
How long does certification take?
Most businesses complete Cyber Essentials in 2 to 4 weeks. Cyber Essentials Plus takes longer because of the extra hands-on audit, and must be completed within 90 days of your Cyber Essentials self-assessment.
Is the £25,000 cyber insurance automatic?
It's included at no extra cost when you certify, but it isn't automatic for everyone. To qualify, your organisation must have annual turnover under £20m, be UK-domiciled, certify your whole organisation, and opt in during the application. It's underwritten by AIG.
Is Cyber Essentials right for a small business or startup?
Yes. It's designed as a baseline for organisations of any size, and it's often what lets a small business bid for contracts that require certification. Most of our clients are SMEs.
What happens in a Cyber Essentials pre-assessment?
We check your current setup against the five controls and give you a readiness picture and a fix list before you formally apply, so nothing fails at submission.
Are you a Cyber Essentials certification body?
We're a Cyber Essentials certification support provider and prepare you for assessment through an accredited certification body.
Can you help even if we use a different IT provider?
Yes. We work alongside your existing IT team; we only need access to run the assessment and any remediation.
Can you help with Cyber Essentials if we have never done it before?
